No, you do not need a referral to see a psychologist. You can approach a psychologist directly without having to go to a doctor first. However, if you have a referral letter, you are welcome to bring it to our first meeting.
If you have medical aid, please bring your medical aid card. You will need it to complete your details on the intake form.
All appointments are approximately 50 minutes.
Sessions are usually scheduled once a week at a time we agree on. Your therapy time will remain consistent, as far as possible.
It is difficult to say how many sessions you/your child might need. This depends on the severity of the presenting problem and on how deeply you would like to work through your difficulties. Many clients decide to enter therapy processes that last for a few years. However, shorter processes are also offered when required.
I work with adults, adolescents, and children in an individual capacity. I do not offer family or couples counselling. I work with all ages, except children younger than 3 years.
My cash rate is slightly below medical aid rates. Medical aid claims are submitted at the medical aid rate.
You will receive an invoice towards the end of each month. Payments can be made by cash or EFT. I can also claim directly from most South African medical aids. These claims will be submitted at the end of each month.
I am contracted with most South African medical aids, including Discovery, Bonitas, Medihelp, Momentum, Gems, CAMAF and Old Mutual Staff medical aid.
If I am not contracted with your medical aid provider, you can pay for invoices at the end of each month and claim back from your medical aid in your private capacity.
Yes. Appointments not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance will be charged at full rate.
When I work with children younger than 12, I normally meet with both parents/guardians for an initial consultation. This allows me to get all the necessary background information before I start seeing your child.
I provide feedback sessions to parents after every 6-8 play therapy sessions. The purpose of these sessions is to provide support to you and to explore together how you can best support your child.
I will provide general information about what takes place in your child’s therapy and his/her progress. I do not provide specific information about what was said in therapy sessions, because this might break the trust between your child and me as their therapist.
Yes. When I see children younger than 12 years old, I require the consent from both parents or legal guardians. Children 12 years and older don’t need their parents’ consent to start therapy.
No. I do not get involved in legal disputes or other official proceedings unless compelled to do so by a court of law.
Matters involving custody and mediation are best handled by another professional who is specifically trained in those areas. This allows me to fulfil the primary function as your/ your child’s therapist.
